Prayer of Saint Augustine

I went to Trinity Vineyard on Sunday and absolutely LOVED the service. I really like how they fuse scripture and music. I also like that there is a lot of history and taking everything back to biblical times to understand the scriptures and bring the stories to life. I also like that the songs they sing aren't anything that I'm used to. They do some hymns, which I love, but they also do some songs that I've never heard before. Here's a song that we did that I can't get out of my head called "Prayer of Saint Augustine"-

Breathe in me O Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be holy
Act in me O Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy
Draw my heart O Holy Spirit, that I love but what is holy
Strengthen me O Holy Spirit, to defend all that is holy
Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit, that I always may be holy.
Amen.

"Make Me Over" byt Natalie Grant

For some reason, this song has been on my heart lately. I really like some parts of it are speaking right to my heart (like the whole first verse!) and it's shaking me to the core. Not to mention- Natalie has an extremely powerful voice. Listen to it here:

I've been silent instead of speaking up
gave my advice instead of giving love
I have been unfair, faithless and unkind
I have shut my eyes just so I would stay blind
It's not what I meant to do
'Cause I wanna honor you

Make me over, make me new
Make me a mirror, a reflection of you
Take me all apart
Take me to your heart and pull me closer
Oh, Jesus, make me over

Take away the pride that whispers in the dark
Take the stone out of the middle of my heart
Hidden underneath my insecurities
Is the servant that you've destined me to be
But day after precious day
I get in my own way

Make me over, Make me new
Make me a mirror, a relection of you
Take me all apart
Take me to your heart and pull me closer
Sweet Savior, Make me over

I am only made of your imagining
I'm dust and clay on the wind
Wash me in the river of your sacrifice
Until I'm changed, purified

Take me all apart
Take me to your heart and pull me closer
My Jesus, Make me over
Make me over

They’ll know we are Christians by our love?

I was working out yesterday and watching the news at the same time and I saw a piece on an abortion provider who was shot dead at church on Sunday.
http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/05/31/kansas.doctor.killed/index.html

There are so many things about this that bother me. Now, I’m usually not one to speak out about these kinds of issues but this really threw me over the edge. I don’t know if the gunman was a Christian or not but it got me thinking.

I’m fed up with the Church being known for what we are against. Anti-abortion, anti-gay, anti-this, anti-that. I feel like Christians today are known more for our anti’s than our love when scripture clearly says that is what we would be known by. John 13:35- “By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

I know this is something I need to take to heart.. I could definitely love people more.
